Calondil is an elf brought up in an upper middle class family (owners of a fine elven brewery), the middle brother of three. At a young age, the older brother knocked over a pot of boiling hops, permanently scarring Calondil’s feet. This led to considerable animosity between the brothers since the older insists it was an accident and not his fault. He has not apologized to this day. This led Calondil to distance himself a bit from his family and turn more to friends and books. Spending much of his adolescence in the library, he gained quite a bit of worldly knowledge and a desire for the few things he didn’t have: magic, other cultures, and freedom from the Old Laws. This reading, combined with hearing the dying words of an Elder Counselor made him decide to run for Elder Council to try to change things. After being elected (probably due to his naturally high charisma and many friends), he witnessed the true corruption of the Elder Council. Not wanting to be a part of this, he did what he could by taking one of the Rings of Truth and leaving the council and his Elven home behind. He spent most of his money to hire a ship to take him to the New World, Iralyah, in search of the life that he wanted, and more importantly, himself.
